The wrong choice can force your wine cellar refrigeration system to work more and allow undesirable warm air inside your wine room, nullifying the rest of your cautious wine room construction and design.
The correct wine cellar door maintains a seal on the entryway when the door is closed, allowing the wine cellar cooling unit to circulate temperature and humidity-controlled air through the total wine room without battling with air leaking into the room from outside the door. Whether you buy a pre-made standard door, or have one built to your desired specifications, all good wine doors have specific qualities that make them perfect for the climate control demands of your wine storage room.
Wine Cellar Door Construction
Custom wine cellar contractors recommend using exterior grade wine doors, which are powerful enough to withstand temperature fluctuations and keep outside air from trickling in. An excellent exterior grade wine cellar door should be weatherproofed and acclimatized to the level of temperature and humidity in the environment where it will be used; the humidity factor should not be ignored when picking a door. The recommended humidity for a wine room falls roughly between 50% and 80%, with 70% being the target level. If a wine room door can’t survive 70% humidity without warping or additional issues, it isn’t worth the money you paid for it.

Miscellaneous Concerns
Wine cellar doors should come with a threshold, door sweep and perimeter seal. These seals permit the door to be weather-stripped on all three sides to keep out drafts when the door is shut. Weather stripping is a necessity for the entrance to your wine room, or else your wine cooling system works less efficiently and your climate controlled air will move into the area outside the wine cellar.
Are you buying a custom wine room door? You will need measurements of your door jamb or entryway and you must decide whether you want handles or locks. Some vendors will not supply locks or pre-drilling. If you want to install a lock in these cases you will have to do the job yourself based on the design specifications of an exact lock.
Sometimes the direction your doors open might be an issue. When deciding which way your wine room doors should hinge, think about the placement of your wine racking or accessories around the doors, and how wide you need to open the doors should you need to add in a crate or case of wine bottles. If you need more clearance than the inside of your wine room can provide, make sure your doors can swing open to the outside, and don’t forget a doorstop or additional add-on to prevent the doors from striking the wall.

Wall Mount Accessories - Have You Thought of These?
So many times I have been contacted by my web site enthusiasts interested in knowing what is available in different and unusual Wall Decor. They want some information on wall decor that will set them apart from the usual boring “Same old, same old.â€
They also say that they would like to decorate their walls in a way that would express themselves as individuals who don’t necessarily follow the crowd. They ask for my suggestions of what I believe to be tastefully and uncommonly artful wall decor.
For some time I researched their need and after careful study, I have come up with some suggestions that just might help them out. Keep in mind that when it comes to wall decor, there are unlimited directions that one could pursue.
Because I have limited space here on this page, I will give some examples of what I believe to be unusual wall decorations. From there I hope to get the imaginations of those of you who are looking for this information, a sort of kick start to Your Own exploration of unexpected wall decor.
So I started out by locating Metal Wall Art and Sculptures. These are fascinating creations that will give the room a three dimensional artful appeal. There is something here that is sure to please anyone who is looking for different.
The first Metal Art I will go over with you is Laser Cut Metal Wall Art. From pieces sculpted into the shapes of suns, animals such as horses, deer, dolphins in tropical scenes, cowboy boots and hat, elk in forest scenes, butterfly and flowers, Azaleas with hummingbird and so much more laser cut metal wall art. You just have to go online to see for yourself how different and beautiful this art truly is.
Staying in metal wall art, the next pieces I found are called steel image wall art. This particular art form is produced from medium gauge steel. The image is then laser cut and formed into art. The steel is then hand brushed to a rich textured finish. The unique colors available are from a process called Kaleidikolor. The final process is powder coating to assure durability for both inside and outside Wall Hanging applications.
I found a variety of different topics made into Kaleidikolor art forms. Some of these topics included gecko metal art, different forms of sun and moon metal art, a variety of different trees such as Aspen and Aspen branches of different sizes, Hummingbird metal art, North American animals of the wilderness and so much more.
I don’t have enough space here to provide you with all that is offered in this Kaleidikolor art. You’ll have to go online and see for yourself all the magnificent metal Kaleidikolor art offered to truly appreciate this art form. There are literally hundreds of pieces in different topics to choose from.
Wall Planters are another form of wall art that will enhance the atmosphere of a room. These beautifully crafted plant holding devices are a Welcome addition to the total presentation, giving the room in which they are displayed an elegant touch of harmony only nature’s plant life can provide.
Most of your wall planters are made of Iron. Many of these Iron Wall planters are constructed of iron rods bent into artful shapes or crisscrossed and welded together to form wall planters of exquisite style. Some of this metal artwork has metal framework while others do not.
Other forms of metal wall planters have artfully curvaceous Wall Mounted hanging brackets with metal mesh baskets hung by artful chains. After you have securely anchored the bracket to the wall, all you have to do is put a plant into the hanging basket and enjoy the heavenly scent of fresh flowers in bloom.
Staying with metal wall planters, let’s explore one more version. This version is called the Wall Mounted Planting Bowl. This is different from what I have written about so far.
These beautiful wall mounted planting bowls are Cast Iron molds. All these wall mounted planting bowls use cultural period designs and castings that once graced Europe’s cities, towns and estates. The handcrafted detail of these wall mounted planting bowls brings out the extremely artful display of a bygone era.

What price should i expect to pay to fix a cracked engine mount and leak from the power steering hose?
It is a 55 plate Mini Copper S and it went in for a service and the dealer advised these items needed doing and quoted me almost £600 which i think is very expensive. Just wondered what people in the know thought. It has 27,000 miles on the clock.

Cracked engine mount, sound to me like you abuse the car or a bad design at 27,000 miles I say is a bad design, so expect to dish out the same amount of money in another 27,000 miles. Crack power steering hose now it tells me that this vehicle was made with improper spare parts. Even so 600 that is an equivalent to about 900 or 1100 US and that my friend is very expensive. You can get that done with brand new parts for less than 200US here on high end vehicles. Mind you an engine mount is not easy to damage, but extremely easy to replace. If it takes about 30 minutes to do it for a big V8 engine and all you need is a jack and some wrenches, I can imagine you can do it in less time with your vehicle. Average price for an engine mount in North America 60US

Little wonder that modern attitudes towards gardens and what they represent have evolved from traditional views over the last fifty years. Not so long ago, the garden was ‘an area’ intended to be enjoyed, easy to maintain, yet full of variety and ideally providing colour throughout the year. In fact apart from children running around playing, mowing the lawn and deciding how and when best to prune the fruit trees, gardens were considered more in visual terms, in other words within the garden space, form took precedent over any garden activity. This traditional perspective has been dramatically overtaken partly because of the vast array of new garden products featuring innovative technologies but mainly by the dynamic changes in modern living and working habits.
Yes gardens have become smaller and people generally have less time for garden maintenance activities, but most will demand more and spend (both time and money) more in getting the outdoor space right for them and enjoying more time outdoors, whether it is alone or with family and friends.

Unquestionably Sandstone available in a wide range of sizes and colours is a top seller and the preferred choice by far of most people. Natural stone demanding little maintenance is still the preferred choice over other patio alternatives such as man made products and decking. Locating the patio in the sunniest part of the garden is obvious but you would be surprised to discover how frequently this prized location in the garden is occupied by the garden shed. Monitor the sun movements throughout the day to determine what is the best position for the patio. Most prefer sunny positions late afternoon or early evening but some might prefer dappled shade during midday. So choose a location for the patio where and when you’re most likely to use it most. Patios should be level so that you have no trip hazards at joints or Patio Chairs do not annoyingly rock each time you shift position. They should also have a slight slope or fall for rain to run off. A typical fall is 25mm in 1000mm (approx 1:40). Fall should not be confused with sloping sites which can be cleverly utilised to create split or different levels in the patio. In other words do not be too quick to level sloping ground instead seek new ideas to develop imaginative patio forms. In larger sites it is not uncommon to find two or more patios, designed to take full advantage of the sun at specific times.
Plants please
Of all the elements that go to make up your perfect garden, plants after structure are the essential component. The choice of plants today is practically endless, whether your preference is evergreen or deciduous (shed leaf in autumn), lime haters or lime tolerant,
prefer sunny or shade, dry or damp, open or sheltered conditions. Also how you use plants in the garden can yield specific effects on overall Garden Size and style. Some plants may be planted as sole specimens, i.e. the centre of attention in a low level bed or to provide a screening requirement. Others may be planted as informal i.e. natural groups or formally to create dramatic geometric patterns.
Ideally plants should be used in as naturalistic way possible so as to enhance the desired look whether it is to follow a gentle curve or sometimes affect the overall appearance. For example, trees and shrubs can be cleverly used to disguise a long narrow garden to make it appear broader in effect, conversely plants can also be used to lengthen broad gardens which are not very long by using the taller plants nearer the house and shorter further away to create a perspective effect that makes the garden appear longer.
Although plants may be used in a variety of ways, it is well worth considering the maintenance aspects before making final selection. There is little point in planting large varieties in confined spaces and despite repeated cutting and pruning neither plant nor gardener will ever be happy. Instead choose plants carefully, consider mature heights and spread not just what the label states ‘…in ten years…’ because plants continue to grow. Instead try to determine what is actual plant height and spread at maturity. Pick plants to suit the suit site’s soil, prevailing conditions and size. This way you will have plants that will flourish and require little or no cutting.
Borders can be straight but better to have gentle curves. Avoid intricate curves and above all pathways that dissect the lawn which will destroy the open aspect and make the garden appear smaller. Instead position pathway to oneside. Ideally borders with at least two or three planting lines look far more interesting. The backline representing usually the taller varieties are the all year round backbone with the middle and lower foreground lines providing seasonal impact. Beds should be at least 900 mm- 1,200 mm deep and to conceal structures like rotary lines or garden sheds might be larger than 2.000mm or more.
For added interest, try to use plants and shrubs with contrasting shapes, heights and colours all linked in a gentle flowing manner around the garden. More impact can be achieved by planting in groups and here think odd as best., i.e. plant in groups of 3,5,7,9 etc for effect. Group planting can be very effective to emphasise the curve nature of the border. Raised Beds are becoming a very popular feature for more gardens, not only do they provide added height and hence presence to particular planting arrangements but a great solution to creating soil conditions required for specific groups of plants not found in other parts of the garden. Here azaleas, rhododendrons, forest flames all with spectacular foliage and flower characteristics and are easy to grow so long as the soil is lime free soil. These soil conditions are easy to create in raised beds. Raised beds can be positioned against boundary walls or more prominently as island beds within paved areas. Raised beds may be constructed form brick, natural stone and a variety of timbers can also be used to create attractive enclosures for water features. Trailing bedding plants can be used to great effect in Raised Beds.
Watered Features
There are a wide range of types and sizes but nowadays people choice is influenced by the safety aspects and low maintenance requirements, hence the popularity of Reservoir features typically positioned on or near patio area where they are best enjoyed for both visual and the soothing sound effects of trickling water. In more contemporary gardens Stainless Steel columns are a popular choice. Irrespective of your style preference, water features add a new dimension to any garden. All that is required is careful attention to detailing, a thoughtful selection of plants, e.g. ferns, ornamental grasses combined with natural river cobblestones create superb compositions and very pleasing features to admire.
The meaning of Light
Lighting is really a must have in the garden. It can not only make an ordinary garden look spectacular revealing an aspect unseen during daylight, but come nightfall the silhouettes of trees and shrubs against textured walls take on a whole new meaning. Just as much as gardens can be visually admired for their interest during daylight, lighting offers a whole new dimension to the meaning of beauty in the garden albeit at nightime. There are many lighting effects to be considered including: spread lighting across access paths, uplighting to direct light up through the branches and trunks of trees or up the walls of buildings, spot lighting can be used to illuminate a statue or Water Feature and downlighting is typically used to illuminate steps.
Contained Treasures
Growing plants in containers whether it is seasonal summer planting and/or all year round planting is an important dimension to the planting aspects of gardens. Much easier and less costly to introduce to a garden, containers be they urns, planters or humble terracotta pots can be very cleverly used to add high drama and bold colour schemes to areas within the garden. Container planting also permits the growing of plants which might be too vigorous to grow in open ground because of lack of available space or other limitations. Bamboos are fantastic container plants so too are Japanese maples but require sheltered conditions which may not be available in open beds during winter months. Containers can be very useful mobile units to locate around patio to great effect. Try bringing fragrance (lavender, santolina, helichrysum or rosemary) nearer the patio. For added impact try and use three plant types per container, i.e. place tall specimen in centre, small compacts in corners and trailers between corners.

For some of us relaxing in the garden is nothing more than sitting out or swinging in the hammock, usually in the sun but perhaps increasingly in dappled shade. Whether alone or with family and friends, sitting or eating, dozing or entertaining, living outdoors is a major aspect of how we relax and sometimes let’s be honest, a popular place ‘to get away from it all.’ Today’s outdoor living spaces reflect our preferred ‘approach to interior living’ and hence the common link to bring the indoors out or take the garden in. How do you replace an Ikea removable foam mattress cover after you get it off?
I have one of the Poang chairs with a "removable" cover that I took off and washed...however, getting the foam part back in the cover proved VERY difficult, the foam does not just slide back in. Now the pad in the cover looks lumpy...I fear that the same, or worse, will happen with this Ikea mattress cover, as there is only a small opening on one end to get it out.

Everybody loves a hammock. Hanging out in the cool shade or relaxing with a nice tall ice cold lemonade next to the pool is just about as good as it gets. Life is stressful enough, so taking time to relax is essential. Hatteras Hammocks focuses on helping people do just that. They started business almost 40 years ago, founded by a Mr. Perkins, who wanted to make a really good hammock. He has succeed. Solid hardwood spreader bars coated with spar varnish and zinc plated hardware. Two people can easily get on these together as they amply sized.
Finally, Hatteras Hammocks makes large quilted hammocks that offer the maximum amount of comfort and quality. Getting onto one of these is a real treat. The same DuraCord rope is used at the ends, and the fabric is filled with cushioning poly batting. They use rust free brass around the edges for the hammock itself to be supported by, and the spreader bars are coated with multiple layers of varnish. The fabric resists mold and mildew and yet remains soft over time.

Once you have decided to add a water feature to Your Garden, try to resist the temptation to rush out immediately and build it: unless you plan carefully, you could create all sorts of problems for the future. A good feature takes time to install, as well as a considerable amount of money and, once in situ, it cannot be moved easily. So don't risk spoiling your enjoyment of the garden and the feature itself -make sure you first consider every option fully.
When incorporating water into your garden for the first time, you can treat the garden as a blank canvas and choose where the feature will go, as well as its style and size. But remember, there arc-four limiting factors:
? The type of garden you have: a magnificently opulent fountain would be completely out of place in an informal garden. ? Your garden's proportions: these should determine the size of the feature. ? The size of your budget: this speaks for itself. ? The level of your enthusiasm: how thoroughly you plan and execute your ideas can make all the difference to the success of your plan.
WHAT DESIGN? WHAT STYLE? Water is versatile and adaptable and can be incorporated in many forms. Small features might include a barrel pond or cobblestone fountain, either of which would be ideal for a tiny town garden or patio area. Ponds, perhaps l-2m (3-6ft) across, are what most gardeners possess, and these can be wonderful to create and nurture. At the other end of the scale you might consider a lake or large bog garden - if there is the room.
Formal designs These are either circular, oval, or angular - a square, rectangle or other geometric shape. Formal ponds are particularly suitable where space is limited. They look best in more formal surroundings, for example near the house, or in conjunction with other features such as straight paths and patios. Raised or sunken ponds can add a further attractive dimension to the garden.
Informal designs By contrast, informal ponds are irregular in shape, with soft, sweeping curves and few, if any, straight lines or sharp angles. This type of design is best suited to a garden planted in a relaxed way - a sort of Cottage Garden, with flowers of all sizes and colours. If you like lots of plants, an informal style of pond would suit you best. For example, a bog garden can be created as an extension of the pond, making a perfect transition between the pond and garden.
Still-Water Pond This is the basic, unsophisticated type of pond, without a fountain or waterfall, and no mechanical filtration using pumps. This may sound rather boring, yet in many cases it is preferable if you wish to keep fish and grow a variety of aquatic plants - especially waterlilies, which hate too much moving water around their stems and leaves.
Moving water pond For most of us, the perfect pond is one in which there is some form of moving water. It may be the trickle of a little fountain, or a big gusher with a larger water feature; a gentle cascade over some rocks or, at the other end of the scale, a waterfall torrent. In all cases, unless your garden contains a natural waterfall, or you live on a geyser, the water will be recycled using a pump.
Raised pond Any raised feature in an otherwise flat garden will add interest, but one containing water is always special. Patio ponds are often raised, so you can sit on the edge and appreciate the pond life at close quarters. It may also be the only way of having a pond if the ground cannot be excavated. If a very deep pond is required - e.g. for keeping koi - then elevating it would mean less excavation and reduce the overall costs, which could otherwise be huge. A raised pond can also be a disincentive to marauding creatures - predominately cats and herons - which can mercilessly decimate a collection of fish.
Container features Small water features which do not require an actual pond were once rare to see; today they sell in their millions and can be bought as manufactured items, or made up at home with paraphernalia accrued from all manner of sources. As long as the end result is watertight, your imagination can run riot!
A small water feature can be anything from a wall-mounted ornate reservoir, that is little more than a glorified Bird Bath, through to wooden barrels, Japanese bamboo bird and deer scarers and old kitchen sinks, to more sophisticated pebble and millstone fountains. These can be fairly inexpensive, quick to install, stunning to look at and a marvellous talking point. On the downside, the small size will limit the range of fish or plants you can keep in it; shade will be required for part of the day in very hot weather, to prevent the water temperature rising to dangerous levels for the water life, and regular checks will be needed to replenish water levels.
Conclusion Whatever design and style you choose lore your pond, avoid having too many niches, nooks and crannies, otherwise it could be a real problem to construct and look over-fussy when completed. When in doubt, always choose the simple option, as straightforward, uncomplicated shapes are
