The poem describes a variety of childhood experiences. Because the title of the poem announces that the child is going to grow up to be a poet, we can assume that each experience relates in some way to the writer's ideas about what the poet's art is all about. The child builds himself a place of refuge, a place where he can hide like an animal in its den. He makes a fragile paper airplane and tosses it into the air, allowing the winds to take it where they will. (The winds are "faithless," so maybe they'll carry the boy's creation a long way, or maybe they'll dump it or destroy it.) He spins around and around until he's so dizzy that he can't stand up. He hides and waits for somebody he loves to come by. It's up to you to figure out how each of those childhood activities relates to what a poet is doing when he writes a poem and offers it for the world to read.
