1) if you could add a colored label to each strand of a DNA molecule and then follow the colored label in the DNA molecules through a round of DNA replication, in the two new molecules you would see
a) colored label in one strand only of eah of the DNA molecules.
b) no colored label in either DNA molecule
c) a zebra-striped pattern of some patches with color and some patches without on each molecule
d) colored label on both strands of both DNA molecules
e) colored label on both strands of one of the DNA molecules and no label oneither strand of other DNA molecule
2) on average, if you examine 1 million human cells looking at a single gene, you'll find one cell with a mutation in that gene. if you were looking at a gene that could lead to cancer when mutated, how many mutated copies of that gene would you find in a person? ( assume a person contains 100 trillion cells.)

The 1st question depends on how the DNA is labeled, and maybe even the size of DNA being replicated, and if other DNA strands are present when the replication is happening...
If one single label is attached to the end of each side of the "parent" DNA, then each "daughter" will have only one label (answer A).
If the colored label affects every single base pair in the "parent" DNA, then size becomes an issue.
When DNA replicates, there is the possibility of "crossing over" between 2 chromosomes. Assume that we are looking at a chromosome with 2 genes on it (A and B). Each gene could have 2 different color tags (A or a, and B or b).
A man has one chromosome with genes "AB" and one chromsome with genes "ab". If the genes are very far apart from each other this crossing over may occur, and his gametes (sperm cells) may carry chromosomes of "Ab" and "aB". So, this would then be answer C, zebra striped patches of color and no color.
If, however, the DNA molecule being replicated is small then this crossing over will not occur, and the answer remains A.
If only one strand of DNA is present to be replicated, of course no crossing over can occur with a non-colored strand, so the answer will be A regardless of the size of the molcule.
As for the 2nd question...
100 trillion (100,000,000,000,000) (1x10 11) divided by 1 million (1,000,000) (1x10 6) = 1x10 5 (100,000).
So, the answer is 100 thousand.
